Kite Meadow Help & Support

Kite Meadow helps you keep a private journal of home learning, follow up on ideas and create reports from your evidence.

Get started

  1. Open Profile and choose Add child profile.
  2. Enter the child's name. Birth date and profile notes are optional.
  3. Use Capture to record learning, or Add Photo to start with a photograph.
  4. Choose a child and add a title, note or photo, then save the entry to Journal. Subjects, tags, reflections and next steps are optional.

Find and edit your learning

Open Journal to browse your entries. Search using words from titles, notes, child names, subjects, tags, reflections, next steps or photo captions. Use Filters to narrow the results by child, subject, tag or date.

Open an entry to read its full notes and view its photographs. Choose Edit to update it or remove a photo. If you close an editor with unsaved changes, you can keep editing or discard the changes.

Follow up on an idea

Add a next step to a journal entry, then choose View all next steps on Home. You can filter by child, review completed steps, mark an idea completed or reopen it later.

Choose Record follow-up learning to start a new entry with the original children, subjects and tags. Add what happened in a note, photo or updated title. Historical notes and photos are not copied into the new evidence. You can choose whether saving the follow-up also completes the original next step.

Review progress and create reports

Progress shows recorded evidence by subject and time period. Its counts describe your journal; they are not grades or assessments.

In Reports, create a report and choose the child, date range and subjects. Use Automatic to include matching journal entries, or Choose entries to select evidence yourself. Reports use the current content of entries that still match the report's scope when you generate the PDF.

Choose Generate PDF, review the preview, then use Share to save or send it. Check the child, dates, notes and photographs before sharing. If a report's child profile has been deleted, edit and confirm the report's scope before exporting again.

Save a complete backup

A PDF report cannot restore your library. Use a complete backup to preserve child profiles, subjects, journal entries, tags, photos and report settings.

  1. Open Profile, then expand Backups & data.
  2. Choose Export complete backup.
  3. Use the share sheet to save the JSON backup somewhere outside Kite Meadow, such as a location in Files.
  4. Check that the file is present at the destination. Keep a recent backup before replacing, resetting or erasing your device.

Backups can contain children's information and photographs. Store and share them with care.

Restore a backup or move to another device

  1. Open Kite Meadow on the destination device.
  2. Go to Profile → Backups & data → Restore from backup.
  3. Select the exported JSON backup and confirm Restore Backup.
  4. Check the restored profiles, entries, reports and photographs before removing the original backup or app installation.

Restore adds records that are missing from the current library. It keeps existing records unchanged, so restoring an older backup does not undo newer edits, and restoring the same file again does not create duplicate records. On an empty installation, unused starter subjects may be replaced by the subjects in the backup.

Kite Meadow does not automatically sync between devices. Export and restore a complete backup when moving your library.

If you see “Library unavailable”

Keep Kite Meadow installed. Do not delete or reinstall the app while recovering your library.

  1. Check your device's available storage and free space if necessary.
  2. Restart the app and choose Try again.
  3. If the library still will not open, choose Share error details on the recovery screen and contact support before attempting further recovery.

Keep any existing backup files. Do not publicly post a complete library backup containing children's information.
